Benefits of Concierge Medicine

When I began practice, I envisioned providing the same level of care as I provided during my training, spending hours with each case. However, as most of you know, the typical practice model allots less than fifteen minutes per visit. I could barely scratch the surface. Instead of acting like a primary care doctor who expertly coordinates patient care and solves complex problems, I was acting more like an urgent care provider.

 

I needed to get more time with my patients, and in 2002, I became one of the first doctors in Miami to convert to the Concierge Medicine model.

 

In essence, all Concierge Medicine practices are the same. To get more time, the patients subsidize the practice so the doctor can carry a lighter patient load. My practice for instance, is capped at three hundred patients, and I typically see fewer than three patients per day. This additional time leads to several benefits. See below.
